Welcome

Spello

Spello is a small town in the province of Perugia in Umbria, the hearth of Italy. It lies between Assisi and Foligno on the slopes of Mount Subasio and dominates the fertile Umbrian Valley.

Spello boasts the largest number of Roman monuments in the area. Its arches, amphitheatre and Augustean city walls witness its past importance when it was called "splendidissima colonia iulia" (wonderful Julean town)

The old town centre is typical of the region, with narrow alleys and streets winding up and down between ancient stone buildings.with an occasional peep at the marvellous panorama below.

The town was built with the pink stone taken from Mount Subasio which characterizes its roofs, walls and balconies. Pink matches harmoniously with the silver olive groves stretching from Assisi to Foligno. The delicate beauty of the many Madonnas painted by Pinturicchio and the sober Roman features of St.Claudio's Church add charm to the place. Several reminders of ancient Rome can be found all round the town walls.

House of Este

The House of Este established itself in Ferrara around the 13th century transforming the city into a flourishing Renaissance cultural centre. Its residents are still extremely proud of the unique splendour of their city and tourists have always been attracted by its architectural and artistic beauty.

The owner of Casa d'Este Country House, who has been in love with Umbria for so long, decided to unite her love for both towns by naming her property after the family name which symbolizes Ferrara.
